Alumni Convening on Climate Change
The convening was a great success. Many thanks to all who attended and contributed. See highlights of the conference.
The 2008 HBS Social Enterprise Alumni Convening, "What Business Leaders Need to Know About Climate Change," will be held on the HBS campus on Saturday, March 1, 2008. The event will be the first global HBS alumni convening ever to address Climate Change and its implications. It is intended for a non-scientific audience of business leaders. It is open exclusively to an intimate group of alumni who are highly committed to this issue, and we expect that this conference will spark a rich dialogue. Since it will feature interactive sessions and a classroom case discussion, space is limited, so register now.
Please note that registration for both this event and the student-led Social Enterprise Conference (see below) is being done jointly on one website; be sure to choose the conference(s) you are interested in from the dropdown list.
Key highlights of the day will include:
-
A brief but deep dive into the science behind climate change and a brief review of macro-level trends and implications -- what the HBS Leader needs to know: Keynote discussion with James J. McCarthy, Alexander Agassiz Professor of Biological Oceanography at Harvard University and a working group co-chair of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and Harvard Business Review Senior Editor Gardiner Morse.
-
An interactive discussion of critical issues confronting business leaders in a case-format discussion, led by HBS professor Arthur Daemmrich (with or without cold calls!)
-
Information on how the Business School itself is tackling its own Operations in terms of its environmental footprint. This will include an update from the large and growing Business and the Environment club on campus, led by some highly innovative student thinkers and leaders on the issue
- Working groups to spark a shared agenda for action
-
A cocktail reception in the evening with students, as well as speakers who will be featured at the student-led Social Enterprise Club conference the following day (March 2, 2008)
-
And of course, ample time for networking
Schedule now available.
The alumni event will be followed on Sunday, March 2 by the ninth annual student-led Social Enterprise Conference.
